Please join us for the opening reception of “Gold & Desire – a Solo Exhibition of works

by Amy D. Herzel” at the Cerulean Arts Gallery & Studio on April 7, 2018 from 2pm-5pm.

In her first Solo Exhibition in Philadelphia, Ms. Ad. Herzel introduces us to a series of abstract meditations in gold and graphite.  Though originally from New York and currently living in Blue Ridge, Virginia, Ms. Herzel claims her Aesthetic roots from Philadelphia. She is an alumnus of PAFA and the Tyler school of Art and spent 20 years growing up, growing a family and working in the many corners of this “multifaceted city that she loves.”

Since leaving Philadelphia 8 years ago she has shown work in Virginia, Fort Worth, Dallas, Cincinnati, Nashville, and Los Angeles.   Many of the pieces in this show were most recently exhibited at the Art7 Gallery in Fort Worth. The Art7 show was curated by Jennifer Cassler Price the Curator for East Asian and Non-Western art at the Kimble Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. Ms. Price offered great praise for the work, and says it can be best described as, “poetic.”

Some pieces included in this exhibition were also honored at the 2017 Roanoke Biennial juried by JoAnna Leonhardt Casulo and Beth Rudin DeWoody. Ms. Herzel’s piece titled, “Crown jewels,” after receiving an, Honorary mention and award, was subsequently purchased by The Beth Rudin Dewoody Foundation. Ms. Casulo and Ms. DeWoody are both long-time friends and advocates for emerging artists.  Ms. Cassullo is the founder, president and director of the Dorothea L. Leonhardt Foundation, Inc. and has recently dedicated an Art Center at Roanoke College where she is on the Board of Trustees.  Beth Rudin DeWoody has recently been in the news for the exhibit, Reclamation! Pan-African works from the Beth Rudin Dewoody Collection, currently on display at the Taubman Museum in Roanoke, Virginia, and the opening of her Art space, The Bunker, in West Palm Beach.  In addition to the multitude of Arts initiatives they are involved in, both women also serve on the Board for the Whitney Museum of Art.

"Entering Amy Herzel’s gallery I was transfixed. Her works are airy, or even aerie—a secluded and isolated place high up in the sky."
